Common questions

Is the first count free?

While we offer it, the first count on each install of the app is free: one full count per install, no code needed. Seeing the photo check, the confidence level and the warnings is always free. The free count is a gift, not a contract term, and we may withdraw or change it. If you have already paid for a count, withdrawing the free count does not affect it.

What does it cost?

Unlocking one count is one purchase; in Australia it is A$1.00. Count packs of 10, 30 and 100 counts are separate purchases. Prices differ from country to country. The App Store or Google Play shows the exact price in your local currency before you buy, and that is the price you pay. Every purchase is a one-off: nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel. Payment is through Apple or Google Play, and we never see your card details. Refunds are handled by the store. Apple's are at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I restore or move a pack?

Count packs can be restored. On a new phone, or after you reinstall, open the count packs list in the app and tap "Restore my packs". It finds packs bought with the same Apple account and brings back the counts left in them. When you buy a pack, the app also shows a pack transfer code. Write it down: on another iPhone, entering that code moves the unused counts across. Single counts and the free first count are not restored. If you paid for a count and it did not appear, open the app again: it picks up that purchase by itself and uses it for your next count, so do not buy again to fix it. We never see your Apple ID.

Do I need an account?

No. Count My Herd has no sign in of any kind. We do not collect or hold your name, email address, phone number or password. A purchase is proved by a signed token that carries no identity. Your paddocks and count history are filed under a random number made on your phone.

How do I get a better count?

Count one species per count. Stand somewhere high if you can, so animals do not hide behind each other. Take enough photographs to cover the whole mob, up to ten, and overlap them as little as you can, so no animal is in two photos. Check the dots on the result: every counted animal has one, so you can see what was missed or counted twice. To improve a count you already have, take new photographs and count again. That is a new count, so it needs its own unlock.

What happens to my photographs and paddock history?

We do not store your photographs. They are held in our server's memory for the length of the request and are never written to a disk or a database. To be counted, they are sent to Google (Gemini) in the United States, or to OpenAI if Gemini returns nothing usable, three times for one count. That company may keep what we send it for up to 30 days under its own terms, for abuse monitoring, before deleting it. Your paddock names and each count's numbers (species, estimate, range, confidence, photo count and date) are kept on our server. You can delete a paddock and its counts in the app, or tap Delete my data at the bottom of the History screen to delete all of them. Purchases and packs are kept. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
